About the Department
The Department of Economics has an enviable reputation as amongst the best at the University of Delhi. The Department encourages analytical thinking and a pragmatic approach to economic problems.
The undergraduate programme provides a strong foundation in economic theory and quantitative tools of economic analysis. It also familiarizes students with shifts in development paradigms with particular reference to India’s experience. The graduating students obtain admission in the best universities across the globe and many of them are placed with acclaimed think-tanks and top corporates.
The faculty motivates students to go beyond the prescribed syllabus and explore new issues on the basis of independent reading and interaction with experts in the field through the organization of international workshops and national seminars. Paper presentations and projects are an integral part of the teaching-learning process.
The Department encourages scholarship around contemporary debates on gender, development and environment and their relation to macroeconomic policies. Given the dynamism of the world economy, the readings and courses are updated frequently in line with the developments in the academic world across the globe. The Department organized the International Students Symposium Econvista on 'Global Economic Crisis since 1970's: Issues, Implications and Resolutions' with intellectually stimulating and innovative events like Policy Dilemma, The Ideas Forum,Eco Matters and Paper Presentation. The Ideas Forum, a full day event organised as a part of Econvista 2016 was a new initiative.
